The series is for the “mad ones who can’t resist an opportunity to get wet, cold, tired and elated,” explained Ball. “For the upcoming swimming season we are going to run three main events.”
1. Brain Curtis Mile – after 14 years, the date is moved to the first Sunday of the year, January 6th. It is now affiliated with the Midmar Mile and serves as a seeding event to the Midmar Mile.
2. Freedom Swim Series – 5 shorter swims that lead to the 6th and main event, the Robben Island to Big Bay Swim.
Barkai and Ball will explain their events and other extreme ice swimming adventures at the 2012 Global Open Water Swimming Conference on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California on September 21st and 22nd.
