Mel Goldstein and Dean Hawks of the Indy Aquatic Masters will be hosting the inaugural Indy Open Water Challenge on Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Swimmers from across the country will compete over 1- and 2-mile courses at scenic Eagle Creek Park,” explains Goldstein. “Competitors are traveling from six states, some as far as Virginia for this race. The competitors are a mix of swimmers and triathletes. With many triathlons but very few open water events, the Indy Open Water Challenge provides an opportunity for both triathletes and swimmers to gain experience in open water swimming. In addition, Eagle Creek Park is a scenic venue many Midwesterners are not acquainted with but will enjoy.”

Dean Hawks and his fellow Indy Aquatic Masters plan to make the Indy Open Water Challenge an annual event, with big plans for the future for the equilateral triangular course. “We are looking to attract the United States Masters Swimming national championship event in 2016.”
