Ger Kennedy On Verge Of Achieving The Ice Sevens

Courtesy of WOWSA, Portillo, Chile. Jaimie Monahan was the first person in history to complete the Ice Sevens, the ice swimming equivalent of the Oceans Seven. To achieve the Ice Sevens, a swimmer must complete an Ice Mile under standard ice swimming rules (i.e., no wetsuit and no neoprene hat) in 7 different locations around the world.  The swims must be ratified by the International Ice Swimming Association. o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in Europe o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in Oceania o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in Asia o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in North America o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in Africa o An Ice Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any location in South America o An IIce Mile swum below 5ºC (41ºF) in any Polar location at 60º south or below or 70º north or above o One of the seven Ice Mile must be a documented Zero Ice Mile (defined as a solo mile swim performed at below 1ºC) Monahan completed the first documented Ice Sevens in 2017 with the following Ice Miles: o #1 Ice Mile in Europe in Reykjavík, Iceland o #2 Ice Mile in Asia (Ice Zero Mile) in Tyumen, Siberia, Russia o #3 Ice Mile in Africa in Aguelmame Sidi Ali Lake o #4 Ice Mile within Arctic Circle in Mikkelvik Brygge, Karlsøy, Norway o #5 Ice Mile in North America at M Street Beach, Boston, USA o #6 Ice Mile in Oceania in Tasman Lake, Aoraki Mt. Cook, New Zealand o #7 Ice Mile in South America in Ushuaia, Argentina in the Beagle Channel Ger Kennedy from Ireland is looking to become the first man and second person in history to complete the Ice Sevens. His seventh Ice Mile is planned for this October in Portillo, Chile in a lake at 3,000 meters. This is his Ice Sevens journey to date: o #1 Ice Mile in Europe in Lough Dan, Co. Wicklow, Ireland on February 24th 2013 o #2 Ice Mile in Mikkelvik Brygge, Karlsøy, Norway (Polar Ice Mile) on March 6th 2017 o #3 Ice Mile Zero in Asia in Tyumen, Siberia, Russia on December 9th 2017 o #4 Ice Mile in Africa in Lake Ouiouane, Mid-Atlas mountains of Morocco on 6 January 6th 2018 o #5 Ice Mile in North America at M Street Beach, Boston, USA  on February 22nd 2018 o #6 Ice Mile in Oceania in the Thredbo Reservoir, NSW Australia on June 1st 2019 o #7 Ice Mile in South America will be held in Portillo, Chile at 3,000m altitude in October 2019 Kennedy has completed 11 official Ice Miles in the years of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 throughout Europe, North America, polar region, Africa, and Asia with another 4 unofficial Ice Miles, an Extreme Ice Mile at 2 km in 0.5°C, and two additional Ice Zero Miles in both 2016 and 2017.  In February 2020, Kennedy also plans a 1-mile swim inside the Antarctic Circle For more information, visit Antarctic 2020 Swim here.
