Gilles Rondy Sets Record Across Canal de Sainte Lucie

2008 French Olympian Gilles Rondy swam close to 4 km per hour for the first three hours despite experiencing numerous jellyfish stings from from Saint Lucia (Sainte-Lucie) to Martinique.
The Canal de Sainte Lucie is nearly 37 km, but the conditions of the Caribbean Sea slowed him down. It took Rondy an unexpected 10 hours 58 minutes to reach the bay of Sainte Anne on Martinique on his cross-border swim (between France and Martinique), but he still broke the existing record by 30 minutes.
Rondy tells his story in detail here.
