Gloves For High-Tech Swimsuits

Gloves For High-Tech Swimsuits

The high-end technical swimsuits used by competitive swimmers are not inexpensive. The tech suits are sheer and can easily tear. In Japan, the sporting good manufacturer Mizuno created specialty gloves for the swimming market. These gloves enable swimmers to easily pull on their skin-tight tech suits without tearing the sheer fabric. The gloves have special material at the fingertips. The gloves allow the swimmer to easily stretch the fabric around their body parts so their very experience tech suit is not torn when a fingernail somehow cuts the material and a hole is created. Xavier Desharnais of Canada borrowed the Mizuno gloves from fellow competitor Yasunari Hirai of Japan before a professional competition on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Just minutes before a competition for prize money in the athletes’ ready room, such is the camaraderie and spirit in which the elite competitors participate in the sport of open water swimming. “The gloves are good, right?” asked Hirai-san with a characteristically wide smile. “Japanese like these kinds of specialty items.” “They sure are,” responded the friendly Canadian competitor as they headed down to the start.
