FINA announced that Budapest, Hungary will replace Guadalajara, Mexico as the host city of the 17th FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships in July 2017.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the President of the Hungarian Swimming Federation Tamas Gyarfas [shown on left] worked to led the effort and build the requisite support to organize and host FINA’s major event in 2017.
“We are very happy to be in Budapest in 2017 and we are sure that the local authorities and organisers will host a great competition. Hungary is a country of sport and true passion for aquatics – the FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships in two years will consolidate and reinforce this tradition,” said FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.
Budapest had been previously awarded the right to host the 2021 FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships and a new bidding procedure will now be open for these events.
