Race director Gordon Gridley from Utah set another record in his favorite local lake. In a build-up to his upcoming English Channel attempt, Gridley swam 21.7 miles in the Great Salt Lake in Utah in 10 hours 59 minutes.
With the salt content high ravaging his body and tongue, together with water temperatures varying between 56-60°F, it was a great opportunity for Gordon to experience much of what channel swimmers go through. The co-race director of the Great Salt Lake Open Water Swimming Marathon with Joshua Green understands logistics and operations – as shown by his detailed log here maintained by his two sons. It provides in a timely manner a great overview of the longest, fastest marathon swim in Great Salt Lake history.
