Australian swimmer Melissa Gorman who earned a position at the 2012 Olympics by placing 4th in 10K open water swimming event and a silver in the 5K team pursuit event, has qualified in the 7th position for the finals in the 1500m pool event. Gorman posted a time of 16:07.39. The women’s 1500m final will take place the 26th (Shanghai) in the evening session.
In addition to Melissa’s swim, open water swimmers such as Kristel Koebrich of Chile (4th in 16:03.50), Li Xuanxu of China (6th in 16:05.82), Erika Villaecija of Spain (8th in 16:12.45), Keri-Anne Payne of Great Britain (12th in 16:23.11), Andreina Pinto of Venezuela (14th in 16:23.96), Marianna Lymperta of Greece (19th in 16:35.16) proved open water swimmers are among the best pool swimmers in the world. Erika, Keri-Anne and Marianna all qualified for the 2012 London Olympics 10K Marathon Swim earlier this week at Jinshan Beach before heading over to the pool.
