“It went perfectly. The conditions were rough, but people want to sign on for our next two events on the Body Science Great Australian Swim Series on the Gold Coast on January 14th and in Sydney on Australia Day,” reported race director Brendan Capell.
“We had 360 swimmers on a rough and rainy day.”
Melissa Gorman, who won the race and Swimming Australia’s Open Water Swimmer of the Year award on the same weekend, commented, “I just got back into training in the last weekend and it was a little bit choppy out there, but that is open water swimming for you. [Body Science Great Australian Swim Series] is a great concept and introduction to open water swimming for people in Brisbane and a fun day.”
Trent Grimsey, who is back on track after a season in which he unexpectedly had to sit back and recover from illnesses, won the men’s division. Well on his way back to health, Trent is featured on Open Water Wednesday this week.
