Simon Griffiths is launching the first open water swimming magazine called H2Open Magazinein February 2011. This exciting moment in open water swimming history coincides with the growth in mass participation events around the world and especially in the United Kingdom.
As Simon writes, “The numbers look set to grow as modern wetsuit technology…provides the buoyancy and warmth needed to give comfort and security in the water.”
H2Open Magazine will provide articles and in-depth reporting on races, training and gear. In the first issue, contents include a Q&A with Keri-Anne Payne and articles including Build Your Base that deals with winter training to build endurance, Beat The Cold that describes tips and tricks as the water temperature drops, Beginners Guide To Open Water Swimming that explains the why’s, where’s and how’s of the sport.
H2Open Magazine will also include content on iconic swim locations, classic long-distance swims and the best lidos in the UK.
Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Citrus Corps, World Open Water Swimming Association, Daily News of Open Water Swimming, Global Open Water Swimming Conference. He is Chief Executive Officer of KAATSU Global and KAATSU Research Institute. Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010), USA Swimming's Glen S. Hummer Award (2007, 2010) and Harvard University's John B. Imrie Award (1984). Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
