Half Century Club In The Manhattan Island Marathon Swim

Half Century Club In The Manhattan Island Marathon Swim

With the NYC Swim solo application deadline approaching on November 1st, it was interesting to learn the total number of times Manhattan Island has been successfully circumnavigated by solo swimmers since the island was first conquered.

A total of 694 swims, including doubles and triples, have been completed since 1915.

51 of these swimmers are members of the Half Century Club – individuals who were 50 years or older when they swam around Manhattan Island. Several of these swimmers have swum multiple times around Manhattan Island after they turned 50 … and most of them have done other notable swim in their second half century of swimming.
