Australian pool and open water swimming coach Mel Tantrum will serve as the head coach of Australia’s national open water swimming team that will compete at the 2022 FINA World Championships to be held in Hungary this summer.
Tantrum follows in the wake of other trailblazing Australian female coaches and managers like Glenda Robertson, Ruth Everest, Tamara Bruce, and Nancy Schnarr.
Photo above from Swimming Australia shows Tantrum with the busy Rhys Mainstone at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona. In those Championships, Jarrod Poort finished 5th, Mainstone finished 19th, Danielle DeFrancesco finished 11th and Bonnie MacDonald finished 14th in the 5 km, Melissa Gorman finished 20th, Chelsea Gubecka finished 30th, Simon Huitenga finished 12th and Mainstone finished 13th in the 10 km, and Mainstone finished 19th in the 25 km.
