Heading Around Huntington

Swim Long Beach, an ocean and pool swimming pod, and the Open Water Swim Club, had an early morning ocean practice around the Huntington Beach pier yesterday.
The practice around the longest concrete pier on the West Coast of the Americas was a tune-up for the 64th annual Huntington Beach Pier Swim.
Led by record holding waterman Hank Wise and famed Hollywood stuntwoman Katie Rowe as the sun rose over the horizon, the team including Lyle Nalli and Kellyn Carlson did some practice starts, hugged the pier going out, and did some bodysurfing back towards shore that was caught on video.
Swimmers and triathletes in Southern California will have a wide variety of open water events to choose from this Saturday.
They can enter the all-out 800m sprint with a big-wave bodysurfing finish in Huntington Beach, the long-established Seal Beach Rough Water Swim in the calmer, warmer waters to the north with events for children and adults of all ages, or freshwater, flat-water the SoCal Cup Open Water Championships held in Castaic Lake during the off-day of the USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships. It’s a 3-for-1 weekend in Southern California.
