Given his audacious plans for a Global Triathlon, where he will literally attempt to swim, bike and run around the Planet Earth, he is in heavy training.
Today, he is reportedly doing an 8-hour swim in San Francisco Bay today in 53°F (11°C) water.
Dan will start and finish in New York City, but in between, he will do a traditional stage swim across the Atlantic Ocean, cycle to Asia and run across the North American continent.
A stage swim is different from a continuous stage swim. In a traditional stage swim, the swimmer begins the swim on each day at the exact point where the swim on the previous day was finished.
In contrast, in a continuous stage swim, the swimmer is allowed to float with the currents and tides and begins the swim on each day at whatever point he/she wishes. But Dan is going to cross the Atlantic Ocean the traditional way (see his interview on the logistics here).
His humble nature, his level of commitment, his training regimen and his detailed logistical planning have impressed us in an (un)worldly manner.
