Swimming in close proximity to a pack in large bodies of water: such is the nature of competitive open water swimming. When large packs of swimmers start together, go around a turn buoy together, or unintentionally swim into each other, there are always potential and elements of physicality. No harm intended, no foul (in most cases).

But occasionally a swimmer really gets whacked big-time. An elbow, a foot, a hand to the body or the face can hurt. The physicality can catch swimmers by surprise. The experienced swimmers do not focus on retaliation, but rather they accept the mishap, they understand the situation, and they swim on.
