Holy Moly – When Swimmers And Sand Mix

Austrian Olympic swimmer Jakub Maly had been training hard with his teammates in Florida. This weekend, he then relaxed on Pompano Beach by digging a giant hole in the sand. The hole was gigantic – over 2 meters deep and nearly 2 meters wide – and had taken Jakub hours to dig. As any hard-working, sand-digging youth can appreciate, Jakub then jumped into the hole … causing the sand to unexpectedly collapse around him.

Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King says Jakub was in danger of being crushed by the pressure from the sand. It took 60 people nearly two hours to dig him out to safety.
