Australian Olympic swimmer Michael Klim announced a new event in Melbourne – the St Kilda Mile Ocean Swim. The December 13th event is an opportunity for the popular Klim to bring his newfound passion for ocean swimming to his home state.

I’ve been involved in the Queensland ocean swim series for the last couple of years, but I’m really excited to be bringing an event here to Port Phillip where my career all began. St Kilda Beach is only a few kilometres from the heart of Melbourne, so this event is right on the city’s doorstep.”

St Kilda Beach was site of the 2009 FINA World Championships.

The main event, one mile, is an extremely popular distance all over the globe. We also have a 3.8 km distance for the Ironman junkies, plus a relay and short courses for kids and beginners,” explains event director John Guise. “We are pleased to announce the Urban Hotel Group as our naming rights partner for the inaugural St Kilda Mile – with their support we aim to build something special here in Port Phillip.”

Klim‘s skincare company Milk & Co is the Presenting Partner whose support of the John Maclean Foundation helps raise funds and awareness for young Australians who use wheelchairs. The event has already attracted the ubiquitous Trent Grimsey to its starting line as well as Australian ocean swimming headliner George O’Brien.
