How Cold Is The Water?

America’s National Oceanographic Data Center offers an online and convenient Coastal Water Temperature Guide.

These temperature tables were created in the early 1980’s by meteorologist Richard DeAngelis.

Although ocean conditions vary from year to year, water temperatures are less variable than air temperatures, so these averages can provide useful information for planning open water training sessions.

The Coastal Water Temperature Guide offers recent temperatures and monthly average temperatures for the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginina, Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massaschusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico and Bermuda.

It also provides the water temperatures in the Midway Islands, Wake Island, Marshall Islands and throughout the Bering Sea.
