On a gorgeous day, the pool and open water swimming husband and wife duo of Rob and Laura Jones set off on an unprecedented swim last week across the Vineyard Sound.

They both completed the first certified crossing from Cape Cod to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

Rob finished the 6.5 mile solo expedition from Menauhant (East Falmouth) to Oak Bluffs on July 11th in 2 hours 40 minutes. Wife Laura, caught a bit of adverse currents and wind chop towards the end of her crossing, completed the swim in 3 hours 35 minutes to set the women’s world record.

They both swim despite multiple shark sitings off Chatham the previous week leading up to the unprecedented swim.
