When Ian Grimmer from Vermont, Anel Sytdykova from Kazakhstan, and a tandem swim with Melanie Tyrrell and Gina Harden of Florida lined up at the start for the 20 Bridges circumnavigation swim around Manhattan Island on June 15th, Grimmer had a little extra motivation.
8 hours 58 minutes later, he achieved his goal of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming. Grimmer had previously completed a crossing of the English Channel in 2019 in 13 hours 58 minutes and a crossing of the Catalina Channel in 2018 14 hours 22 minutes [shown above with kayaker Dan Simonelli and wife Emily Proctor].
