Ingemar Macarine Completes Fourth Tañon Strait Swim

The Filipino attorney is in an ideal location to plan, train for and complete channel swims, among more than 7,000 islands in his native country.
This week, he was in Siquijor Island where he swam 24.65 km in 11 hours 21 minutes from Silliman Beach in Dumaguete City in the Province of Negros Oriental to Tambisan Port in the Municipality of San Juan in the Province of Siquijor.
“This pioneering swim aimed to promote voters’ registration and for cleaner seas,” explained Macarine about his fourth marathon swim in the Tañon Strait.
“This was the most difficult swim in my career. It crossed my mind several times to abandon the swim. The sea was calm during the first few kilometers, but it remained choppy until I finally reached Siquijor.
The direction of the strong current was towards Mindanao so I had to target the Municipality of Enrique Villanueva, Siquijor just to reach San Juan.”
He swam further than he has ever done before (23 km when he swam from Vizayas to Mindanao in 2014). His swim was navigated by Popong Pinili and Roel Catoto.
