Irish Long Distance Swimming Association Award Honourees
The Camlough Lake Water Festival Team and Newry and Mourne District Council in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry hosted a large open water swimming contingent at the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association Awards.“Newbies and veterans from Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connaught and overseas alike were able to enjoy the ceremonies along with Alison Streeter MBE and Kevin Murphy and English Channels and Peter Legge,” reported Jacqueline Galway. “Their attendance along with event sponsors and distinguished guests and the wit of North Channel pilot Brian Meharg of Bangor Boat as the Master of Ceremonies showed the prominence of open water swimming and the opportunities for 2014 and beyond.”

Additionally, Kevin Murphy was presented with the King of the North Channel honour and Alison Streeter MBE was similarly presented with the Queen of the North Channel honour for each having swam the North Channel three times.

Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010), USA Swimming's Glen S. Hummer Award (2007, 2010) and Harvard University's John B. Imrie Award (1984). Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
