It Is Never Too Late For Yasunari Hirai

It Is Never Too Late For Yasunari Hirai

With music blaring, the VIP tent full of camaraderie and conversation, and the colorful announcer constantly commentating in Portuguese from the public address system, Japan’s Yasunari Hirai was a little confused when his 2 km race at today’s King and Queen of the Sea (Desafio Rei e Rainha do Mar) started.

When he was told that his race had already started, he ran down the beach and jumped in a few minutes late.

The Japanese Olympic 10K marathon swimmer swam out of his mind, fast and frantically, and quickly started to mow down people. He never let up and came charging up the beach to claim a podium spot in second.
