Jessica Kieras Wins Day 2 Of S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge

Under the Arizona sun, Jessica Kieras turned the tables on another 38-year-old on Day 2 of the 4-day S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge.
The 38-year-old from Oregon beat John Batchelder by 37 seconds to win the 14.4 km Canyon Lake stage. Batchelder had finished ahead of Kieras by 39 seconds in yesterday’s 15.2 km swim in Saguaro Lake.
The top two swimmers were followed by a trio of veterans: 49-year-old Nora Toledano from Mexico, 44-year-old Jack Zedlitz from Oklahoma and 53-year-old Milko van Gool from the Netherlands.
Kent Nicholas explained the race, “We started the first wave start at 9:40 am. The second wave started at 9:55 and the third wave started at 10:40. The air temperature was 92ºF (33ºC), the water temp was 76ºF (24ºC). There was no wind under a cloudless blue sky. It was a beautiful day with beautiful people.”
Over the next two days, the competitors will compete in Day 3’s 27.3 km stage in Apache Lake and Day 4’s 10 km stage in Roosevelt Lake.
