Joe Bott Sets Standard In Swim The Bridge

Nestled 1,200 miles (1,931 km) away from the Atlantic Ocean and 1,800 miles (2,896 km) away from the Pacific Ocean, the participants in the Swim The Bridge event continue to enjoy the sport year after year in Saylorville Lake along the Mile Long Bridge.

The Swim The Bridge is is the only open water event in the state of Iowa. The 2014 event is located northwest of Des Moines and will be held on July 27th. The event offers a 500m out-and-back course, 1.2-mile under-the-bridge course, 2.4-mile twice the 1.2-mile course, and 3.1-mile combination of the 1.2-mile course, each marked with buoys of different colors.

19-year-old Joe Bott of Clive, Iowa broke Wayne Huebener‘s record when he swam the 3.1-mile (5 km) course in 1 hour 8 minutes.
