This morning, Joe Zemaitis [shown on left] and Jerry George each had their Ice Mile ratified by the International Ice Swimming Association.

Jerry, one of the masters swimmers on my team inspired me to do the Ice Mile,” explained Zemaitis. “We completed it the same day at the Prescott Athletic Club in 4.8°C water.”

They both now join the Iron Iceman club. George completed the Ironman Arizona in 2005 at 12 hours 25 minutes and also the Ironman Hawaii in 2006 at 13 hours 22 minutes together with his 33 minute 41 second Ice Mile.

Zemaitis has completed 7 Ironman Triathlons including four in Hawaii and three in Malaysia during his career. His fastest time was 9 hours 36 minutes 56 seconds at the Ironman Langkawi Malaysia in 2003.

With his 24 minute 19 second Ice Mile, Zemaitis was tantalizingly close to breaking 10 hours combined – only 15 seconds short – the fastest overall cumulative Ironman Triathlon + Ice Mile in history.
