Katie Blair Attempts Two-Way Crossing Of St. Lucia Channel

Sue Dyson had planned, organized and talked about Katie Blair‘s attempt at a two-way St. Lucia Channel Swim on WOWSA Live [see episode below].
Blair’s goal was a 66.2 km channel swim between Saint Lucia and Martinique in the Caribbean Sea. She made the first crossing to Martinique in 12 hours 30 minutes, but was stopped short on her way back to Saint Lucia.
The 41-year-old mother and swimmer from Germany, who is currently studying for her PhD in Performance Psychology, stopped after becoming swollen in the face and throat with jellyfish stings 10 minutes into the 29th hour. “That jelly suit conversation might need to be revisited,” she wrote as she cannot yet speak yet due to tongue swelling and an allergic reaction to the jellyfish venom.

Blair’s new book Lessons from the Water: a Swimmer’s Journey through the Tides of Life was just released and details her experiences in the open water that includes swims in the English Channel, Catalina Channel, and Molokai Channel as well as circumnavigations of Manhattan Island and Key West.
