Kshitindra Chandra Baisya’s Kangsha River Swim
Courtesy of WOWSA, Kangsha River in Bangladesh. Kshitindra Chandra Baisya once swam for 108 hours at the age of 24 and for 74 km at the age of 28.
His swimming career took a lower priority over the next 4 decades as he worked in civil aviation.
Last year, the re-energized 66-year-old ANS consultant completed a solo marathon swim 146 km down the Kangsha River in Bangladesh that took him 43 hours 12 minutes. His swim was massively impressive and profoundly simple, especially since he swam without goggles and well-equipped escort boats.
But between September 3rd and 5th, he one-upped himself when he took up the challenge to swim even further.
This time with goggles and a high-tech jammer, he swam a total of 185 km down the Kangsha River, starting in the morning from the Vogai bridge in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur to Madan upazila of Netrokona. The swim, held under the watchful eye of local government officials and media representatives, took him 60 hours 55 minutes.
Kshitindra is now a two-time member of the 24-Hour Club.
