Kristel Köbrich Schimpl Swims Fast Among Home Crowd

27 men and women competed in the 10 km race at the 2014 South American Games (X Juegos Suramericanos) in Laguna Curauma, a lake in Chile between Viña del Mar and Valparaíso near the coast, on Sunday.

Among the home town crowd, Chilean Olympian Kristel Köbrich Schimpl had a dominating swim to take top place on the podium.

Silver went to new mother Cecilia Biagioli of Argentina who is coming back strongly from her pregnancy last year.

The calm, flat water was just what the 3-time pool and marathon swimming Olympian Köbrich likes as the 800m and 1500m pool specialist was able to turn on her jets and swim away the field.

The final results:

1. Kristel Köbrich Schimpl (Chile) 1:58:06
2. Cecilia Biagioli (Argentina) 1:59:35 [shown above]
