La Traversée du Lac Memphrémagog To Begin Again

La Traversée du Lac Memphrémagog To Begin Again

Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association (NEKOWSA) will host In Search of Memphre, a 26-mile (42K) invitational swim across lac Memphremagog on September 10th. The invited swimmers include Elaine Kornbau Howley, Greg O’Connor, Jen Dutton and Charlotte Brynn.

The course will be the length of the beautiful Lake Memphremago, either swimming from Newport, Vermont, U.S.A. to Magog, Quebec, Canada (south-to-north) or the north-to-south course depending on the wind direction on the day of the swim.

The history of the traversée Internationale du Lac Memphrémagog for many years. It was originally a major stop on the professional circuit until the events of 9/11 ultimately cause border officials to shut down the event. Race director Phil White explains,Part of our goal is to return this type of a swim to Lake Memphremagog and also to “break the border” so that more of these swims can occur. We have already started communications with border officials to pave the way for this swim to happen.”
