He was inducted into the International Lifesaving Sport Hall of Fame. In 2021, he was voted as the 3rd-Runner Up World Games Greatest Athlete of All Time.”

Hassemeier said about the honor, “Drowning is an unnecessary toll for mankind. But it is preventable. For over a century, the lifesaving organizations have developed ideas, educational materials, and technology to educate people on how to save lives. Lifesaving sport is perhaps one of the best means of drowning prevention. The Greek Lifesaving Sports Association is the home of the sport that saves lives in Greece. It operates under the lead of passionate and visionary people. I proudly join my name with the aims and objectives of an organization that strives for excellence in water safety and lifesaving sport.”
