The 2.2-mile Liberty To Freedom Swim from Statue of Liberty to the Freedom Tower in downtown Manhattan Island in New York will be held on September 3rd.

This swim is dedicated to celebrating the freedom of the American people, and to the memory of those that died and served on September 11, 2001, explains race director Deanne Draeger.

The Liberty to Freedom Swim attracted an international group of swimmers last year, including a team of two deaf ladies from Ireland. They had a FANTASTIC swim and had a very large group of supporters.”

The event is organized by Urban Swim, an organization dedicated to providing people with safe access to clean water. Draeger explains, “We stage open water swim events in urban areas as a means of fostering a relationship between people and water. Our events introduce people to the recreational possibilities of their local waterways, and in so doing, raise their awareness of water quality issues.

Our activities in support of safe access to clean water are not limited to our open water swim events. We are also actively involved in other initiatives including dock sharing, water testing, free kayaking programs, support of other open water swim events, partnerships, and political advocacy
