What makes the International Swimming Marathon Port-Burgas unique open water event is precisely its location. In the water area of ​​the marine station, swimmers are protected by the harbor breakwater from large waves and the strong currents of the open sea. It is for this reason that the water is always calm, there are no strong and unpredictable currents. The conditions are very close to those of a huge swimming pool, only with salt water. The entire course of the swimming marathon can be observed from land and each swimmer can be supported by their relatives and friends. This makes the Port-Burgas Swimming Marathon an extremely attractive competition for the public to watch.

The total prize fund is in the amount of BGN 20,000 (EUR 10,000)

The main organizers are: The legendary Bulgarian swimmer Tsanko Tsankov (world and European record holder in 12 hours non-stop swimming in 50-meter pool, Master of sports and the first Bulgarian who crossed the Strait of Gibraltar), Municipality of Burgas, Port of Burgas and the Naval Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria.

For those who will participate in the swimming marathon for the first time, it is good to know that a truly unforgettable experience awaits them. They do not need to be professional swimmers to participate. Every successful finisher of the Port-Burgas Swimming Marathon receives a medal, T-shirt and many gifts from our sponsors. The swimming route is well marked with 7 sailing milestones.

All the time, swimmers are supported by companion boats and kayaks. The safety of swimmers is ensured from both land and water.

The organizers can assist with finding a hotel to stay in Burgas and with recommendations for places to visit near the city and along Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, which is famous with some of the best beach resorts in Southeast Europe.

The Course: The city of Burgas is well known and famous with its beautiful nature and unique culture. Only few meters from the swimming marathon route is the Sea Garden of the city of Burgas – there you can enjoy wonderful views of the sea, the island of St. Anastasia and a view of the entire Burgas Bay. The central beach is only meters away. The area of ​​the sea station is very well situated near to the Main Street and and the central part of the city. In the area there are many attractive bars and restaurants, as well as children’s playgrounds.

To the north and south of the city there are many historical sights from the time of the Roman Empire and the time of the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria.
