Lovely Lake Vouliagmeni In Loutraki

The first open water swim in Loutraki, Greece kicked off with the Lake Vouliagmeni Open Water Race. Sanctioned by the Corinth branch of the Hellenic Coast Guard, the swim became reality after months of planning.

The field exceeded our expectations,” said race organizers Apostolis Tsagarakis and Christos Moutsos. “We were inspired by the energy and passion by the swimmers ages 9 to 60. We will keep promoting the amazing sport of open water swimming in the crystal clear waters of beautiful Greece. And the race for first was so close, only 0.72 second difference between first and second in the men’s 3K event! The two swimmers battled to the very last stroke.

And the first-place woman placed sixth overall in the 3K. We saw lots of triathletes competing in their wetsuits.  They enjoyed a good race and seemed to manage well the distance. We had FINIS, European Sport Events (timing system), Johnson & Johnson, GU Energy Gels and Lifeguard Hellas as our sponsors.”

It was nice event and we will be here to support this again next year,” said local swimmer A. Oikonomou.
