Mandy Mackelworth Doing The Impossible

Mandy Mackelworth Doing The Impossible

Mandy Mackelworth became one of the few people in the world over the age of 50 who has successfully crossed the English Channel.

The 51-year-old swimmer and newest member of the Half Century Club swam from England to France in 14 hours 39 minutes on September 12th.

With her effort, Mackelworth raised £4,756 for the Hope for Guernsey, the local fundraising branch of Wessex Medical Research.

I’ve always swum, but then I moved to Guernsey and met a group of mad but inspirational people who believed that I could do what I always thought for me would be impossible. I was fed the idea that it was possible for me to swim the 21.1 nautical miles from England to France. It took until my 50th birthday to realize that maybe, just maybe, they were right.”
