Marianne Rhéaume Wins Championnat Canadien Groupes d’âge

Marianne Rhéaume from Montreal’s CAMO Natation won the 5 km Canadian Age Group Championships (Championnat canadien groupes d’âge) in Lac-Beauport in 1:07:13 while 13-year-old Dounia Hage won the 2.5 km race in 36:09.

True to the marathon swimming traditions of Québec, swimmers from the province won four of the five women’s open water races. Mia Desjarlais of Club de National Neptune won the 15-year-old event in 1:08:00. Daphne Demers of Club Natation Dollard-des-Ormeaux topped the 16-year-olds in 1:07:11, holding off silver medallist Elisha Walker of the Norfolk Hammerheads by 14 seconds. Brooklyn Douthwright won the 12-year-old girls 2.5 km race in 37:10.

Alexander Katelnikoff from Calgary won the 14-year-old boy’s race in 1:04.32 with a narrow two-second victory over Raben Dommann.

Josh Zakala from British Columbia won the 17-18 year old boys race in 1:00.33 while Ethan Phillips won the 16-year-old’s race in 1:00:57.

Many of the athletes who competed at the Canadian Age Group Championships will head to Pointe-Claire, Quebec to compete at the Canadian Swimming Championships.
