Meliah Motchman Determined and Persistent to Complete a Marathon Swim

Meliah Motchman keeps swimming further and further, extending herself and redefining her potential. Madame Butterfly, as she is known among her teammates with the Spirit Orcas, has Down syndrome and big dreams.

After completing a 5 km swim in Thetis Lake on Vancouver Island in her native British Columbia in Canada with coach Susan Simmons, she gained confidence and then participated in The Great Big Swim, an 8-week 80 km stage swim from Brentwood Bay to Esquimalt Lagoon in Canada to raise funds for COVID Relief in July – August 2020 together with Cheyenne Furlong GoosMaria SharockAly WhiteDixon McGowanDrew SabourinBen VanlieropLidia WhiteSusan Simmons, and Jasmine Kremer.

But now she wants to do a marathon swim: a 10 km solo effort in Lake Cowichan in British Columbia. Learn more below:
