Merle's Mermaid Marathon

Merle’s Mermaid Marathon

Merle Liivand
is an marine environmentalistaquapreneur, and competitive swimmer from Tallinn, Estonia. She splits her time between Estonia and Florida where she continues to be the world’s dominant mermaid swimmer.

In 2019, Liivand completed a 10 km mermaid swim at the WOWSA Ocean Fest in 2 hours 54 minutes in Redondo Beach, California. She then completed a 6.4 km Mother Earth Swim around the Venetian Islands in Miami in 2020, again using a monofin to kick and no arm strokes.

She later completed a 20.66 km mermaid swim in 6 hours 8 minutes in Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida in 2020, and then completed a 30 km mermaid swim in 2021 in Miami in 9 hours 19 minutes (see below).

On May 7th, she will start a 42.2 km mermaid swim in her Florida at 6:00 am. The swim will be covered by the Guinness World Records. “Hopefully, I will finish by 7:00 pm. On that day, we have also four beach clean ups and children’s school day regarding ocean and reduction of marine pollution.”

Liivand appeared in a Ripley’s Believe It or Not! last year:
