Merle Liivand, the Estonian mermaid swimming specialist, plans to make another world record attempt: a 42 km mermaid swim in Miami, Florida to bring awareness to dying oceans and ocean pollution.
VIPs and politicians are planning to support Liivand’s attempt on May 7th. She says, “I am looking forward to having more people and celebrities swim next to me – even for 100 meters.”
She will start at 6 am at Sunset Harbor, swim towards to North Bay Village, turn around North Way Village, by Morningside coming down, pass Edgewater and head towards Venetian island, come towards to Miami Yacht Club, Star Island, and then head to Venetian Islands. On Venetian Island, she will do a circle around Belle Isle and then pass back to Rivo Alto Island, Di Lido Island, San Marco Island, and Biscayne Island. She will pass the bridge on other side and go towards Biscayne Island, San Marco, Di Lido Island, Rivo Alto, back to Bell Island and head to the finish at Sunset Harbor – all before the Aspen Institute Climate Conference.
