Mermaid Went On Marathon Mission, Then Appears On FINIS Friday
Courtesy of WOWSA, Redondo Beach, California.Merle Liivand competes, runs companies both in her adopted Florida and her native Estonia, models, serves as an ambassador for a number of charitable causes, and enjoys the life of a mermaid.
She completed the world’s first 10 km marathon swim at the 2019 WOWSA Ocean Fest in Redondo Beach, California last October in a quest to set a Guinness World Record – kicking the entire 10 km ocean course with only her mermaid fin and using no arm strokes.
Today, Liivand (aka Mermaid Merle) will describe her experiences of the world record mermaid swim on the FINIS Friday livecast [see here].
Liivand completed the 10 km course using a FINIS Luna monofin in 2 hours 54 minutes, exclusively kicking butterfly.
During this novel coronavirus lockdown, Liivand has focused on her Certified Organic Nordic skincare company, Viking Beauty Secrets. She explains, “Viking Beauty Secrets is focused to bringing Nordic super antioxidant ingredients and Viking secrets to the American market. We only use the cleanest ingredients like Icelandic Volcanic Sand and Arctic berries. All products are Greenlife Ecocert Certified Organic and only use 100% recyclable packaging. I think as an athlete who spends long hours in the water, it was a perfect match to partner with Viking Beauty Secrets. I am very passionate about oceans and sustainability. I work, train, compete and live in the ocean and it is most important for me to take care of the oceans. I am proud of this brand and we already have won the Best Moisturizer 2019 Award by Think Dirty which checks that all the ingredients are clean.”
Register for FINIS Friday and listen to @aquamjerle and @vancouvermermaid here at 11 am PST / 2 pm EST.
