FINA had awarded the Mexican city of Guadalajara as its host to the 2017 FINA World Swimming Championships, the local organizing committee can no longer bear the estimated $100 million cost due recent budget restrictions.

Jesus Mena, the director of the Mexican National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport, said, “After reviewing the budget, we have determined that we must inform FINA that Mexico cannot host the world championships.”

A replacement host has not yet been selected.
