Nathan Szobota Win FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championship Title

Nathan Szobota equaled the 5 km gold medal performance of his female teammate, Claire Weinstein, in winning the boy’s 5 km race at the 2022 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

Held in the tropical waters of Beau Vallon Bay in MahéSeychelles, he won in a very close race against Davide Grossi of Italy and Diego Heinze of Germany who finished second and third respectively.

Szobota summarized the race to FINA, “I was definitely a little bit slower off the start than a wanted to be. But then I worked my way into the top of the first pack in the middle of the second lap and then ultimately past the pack. Into the finish, I was just giving it everything I had, just trying to get my hand on the touchpad first. I just got it, barely.”
