Cryotherapy and icing after a competition are part of the recovery process for professional, Olympic, competitive and recreational athletes in many sports.
Winter-long cold water swimming, ice baths, cold showers, cold plunging, and ice swimming (in sub 5°C or 41°F water) are part of acclimatization to the cold for open water swimmers.
So it is very cool to hear that an accomplished professional basketball player like Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA) does some cold plunging to start his day, every day (see here). Thompson is considered one of the greatest shooters in NBA history and is a five-time NBA All-Star.
