Networking In The Open Water World

Networking In The Open Water World

Many of the who’s who of the open water swimming world gathered in San Francisco for the Protecting Athletes – Open Water Swimming Safety Conference. Race directors, officials, administrators and safety officers networked, discussed, debated, proposed and shared ideas on various aspects of open water swimming safety.

Janel Jorgenson of Swim Across America, Rob Dumouchel of Rob Aquatics, Cristian Vergara of Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers, Christian Wilson of the RCP Tiburon Mile, Roger Gervais and Eric Juneau of the Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean were among the 146 representatives from the open water swimming world at the conference.

John Dussliere, Olympic open water coach, and safety expert Jim Wheeler mixed humor and wisdom with their great insight.

Whether it was rapt attention during panel discussions or small talk between the sessions, information flow did not stop throughout the three days.

Kaia Hedlund of the Waikiki Roughwater Swim and Joel Wilson were among the race directors who shared their experiences.

Other who shared vision and advice included Rob Butcher, Bill McCracken, Dale Petranech and Ralph Goto of Oahu’s Ocean Safety Division.
