Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel Swim 2015
Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California. The 2015 StarMile2.5 Nevis-St. Kitts Cross-Channel Swim on April 5th will serve the 13th annual Bente Weber Memorial Swim in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
The 4 km channel swim across the Narrows offers both a race and a challenge to open water swim enthusists and adventurers.
It was a great swim! 168 people did the swim this year. “It was a great swim,” said Erwin Ruijsink who placed second overall as the first man. “I must say there is a challenging current from the north which sets you to the south. I ended up swimming almost 4.6 km instead of 4. But, I saw several turtles swimming underneath me which gave a great motivation. There’s a link below with some additionel info. Winston Crook is the organizer who perhaps could give you some more info. 184 swimmers finished in 2014, but the course record set in 2011 by Olivier Marceau in a time of 58:09 remained in the record books.
Swimmers are free to use fins or snorkels to help them cross the ‘Narrows’ while raising awareness and funds for the St Kitts Turtle Monitoring Group.
