There will be no marathon swimming event at the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games (Games of the III Youth Olympiad) that will be held in Buenos Aires between October 6th – 18th.
206 nations will collectively send nearly 4,000 teenage athletes to compete in 32 sports including triathlon where 64 athletes from 42 nations will compete in Buenos Aires’ Parque Tres de Febrero [see above].
The longest pool swimming event at the Youth Olympic Games is 800 meters (eliminating the 1500m race that will be contested at the traditional Summer Olympic Games).
Perhaps the next Youth Olympic Games will add an open water swimming event that was previously held in the 2008 Beijing Olympics (Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park), 2012 London Olympics (Serpentine), 2016 Rio Olympics (Copacabana Beach), and will be held in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (to be decided), 2024 Paris Olympics (Seine River) and 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (to be decided).
