The annual 250-yard Polar Bear Swim in Lake Tahoe, part of the North Lake Tahoe SnowFest, will take place on March 4th this year.
“This March we are celebrating the 29th Annual Polar Bear Swim in Lake Tahoe, California,” explains Kimberly Moore who has coordinated the event for years.
“Hundreds of spectators line the Pier and Deck at Gar Woods Grill & Pier in Carnelian Bay to watch hardy souls brave the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe.
Following the swim, participants have access to hot tubs on the Gar Woods deck to warm their bodies while the hugely popular raffle is going on in the bar. Complimentary appetizers are provided to all following the race and cash prizes are awarded to the winning swimmers.”
Register here where 1st place receives US$150, 2nd receives US$100, 3rd receives $50.
One of the local personalities and long-time participants of the Polar Bear Swim is Dr. Jeffrey Hartman. He not only swims, but also rallies a large number of men and women and gets them to swim in event.
Others expected to participate will include former winners Julie Tester and Brittany Percin from Truckee.
