The open water swimming world missed a lot last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. The big mass participation events were some of those losses.
But they are beginning to come back.
The John West Great North Swim (link to event page on WOWSA Race Calendar) is the brainchild of legendary organizer and commentator Colin Hill. The event will be held June 11th – 13th in Windermere in England’s Lake District National Park. The following weekend in Alton Water, Suffolk, the John West Great East Swim will be held.
The Great Run Company that organizes the series explains, “We’re all dealing with some unexpected challenges to the way we live at the moment but we’re still working hard to bring you a brilliant event. We’re pulling out all the stops to make it a fantastic day, while doing everything we can to keep you safe.
We understand that there may be uncertainty over what is and isn’t going to be possible this year, but we want to give you the confidence to book your place knowing exactly what will happen if we can’t deliver the event as planned or if you are personally affected by the pandemic.
In the scenario of a 2021 event date change or cancellation by us and for whatever reason, all entrants will be automatically deferred into the subsequent staging of the event.”
