Oman Welcomes Asian Open Water Swimmers

The Oman Swimming Association will host over 80 swimmers from 17 countries at three major open water championships this weekend: the 4th Asian Open Water Swimming Championship, the 4th Arab Open Water Swimming Championship and the 10th Gulf Open Water Swimming Championship. The three 5K races will start simultaneously at Barr al Jissa (Qantab Beach).

Additionally, the Oman Swimming Association has conducted a referee training clinic that serves as a refresher course for 30 domestic and international referees who will act as technical officials for the Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010 marathon swimming competition.

Delegations include teams from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates. Among the sports leaders attending the event, FINA’s Vice President and Olympic Council of Asia Director General Husain al Musallam, FINA and Asian Swimming Federation’s Open Water Technical Committee Chairman Ronnie Wong and Vice President Andrea Kriaykov, and Rashad Ahmed al Hinai, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Sports Affairs of Oman.
