Open Water May Be Added To The SEA

The Indonesian SEA Games Organizing Committee (Southeast Asian Games) reported that 5K and 10K races have been proposed for the 2011 SEA Games in November in Indonesia.

The Committee’s deputy chairman, Djoko Pramono said Indonesian open water swimmers had the potential to win medals at the SEA Games.

We have included open water swimming because our swimmers have shown they have the potential to win medals. Proof of that is how well they fared at the Asian Beach Games in Muscat, Oman last year.”

‘They’ include Yessy Yosaputra who won silver in the women’s 10K race at the recently held Asian Beach Games and Ricky Angga who finished in the top 10 in the 5K and 10K races.

Let’s hope the proposal is accepted.

For what open water swimming offers is hope. Hope to finish, hope to reach your potential, hope to win. The great thing about open water swimming is many athletes and many countries have the opportunity and possibility to medal in any open water event. Like the Indonesians at the Southeast Asian Games.

We can always expect the unexpected and heroes to be made at every competition.
